1999 - Pictures over Turkey

[Previous] [Index] [Next]

Some of the group travelled to Egypt a week after the eclipse. We flew over Turkey which had experienced an horrific earthquake only a few days before. This photo, taken out the window of the plane, clearly shows the dark black smoke from one of the oilfields which burned for days afterwards. It was sobering, after our wondeful eclipse experience, to realise that just to the south of Bulgaria so many people had died in another less benign example of nature's power.
